The artist confronts a paradox :
– to assert his work as an artifice
– to create life and emotion
Joëlle Kem Lika picks up on her theme of flowers and bouquets, she strips them of the natural elements appropriate to photographic representation, she strips them of the illusional backgrounds of the traditional still life (the corner of a table, a chest of drawers, a cupboard…), she asserts this as a constructed work of art by “throwing” it on the canvas in a universe that belongs to the artist’s work shop : stains, drips, drool… She pulls off this little miracle peculiar to artists : to show artifice, to create emotion…
We could parody the title of a painting by Magritte… “this is not a flower”… and yet…
